Smoke Odor Deodorization Tips:
Performing fire damage restoration involves both removing the smoke residues and also deodorizing smoke odors. The odors in a smoke-damaged building will be considerably decreased once the affected materials are demolished and removed or cleaned.
The actual cleaning and deodorization procedures will vary depending on whether the smoke residues are light, medium or heavy.
Different Categories of Smoke Odor / Damage
Light Smoke Odor Situation - typically only affects a small area and has no structural damage. Smoke residues are typically light and not visible.
Moderate Smoke Odor - typically smoke residue are on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. Structural damage in the affected area involved burned materials such as cabinets, counter-tops or contents. Odor problems are greater when a fire burns for a longer time or when an increased number of materials burn. Smoke residues are carried further throughout the home.
Heavy Smoke Odor - typically the entire home is affected by smoke residue. This typically requires almost complete demolition of the interior of the home and sealing of studs to control odor.
